Welcome to Independent Economics

"Econtech Pty Ltd, which was established in 1994, has entered a new phase and has adopted Independent Economics (IE) as its trading name. This follows the successful completion in June 2011 of a 3-year contract with KPMG. In this new phase of our history, we are once again an unaffiliated, boutique economic modelling practice."
Chris Murphy, Director, Independent Economics.

Independent Economics (IE) is an independent provider of economic modelling services. We assist clients in Australia and internationally through model-informed economic policy analysis and forecasting. For some clients we provide reports on modelling that we undertake, while for others we develop and support models that they use themselves. We model entire economies as well as particular markets, industries or regions. We are strongly committed to independent economic modelling that provides robust analysis and real solutions for your economic problems. In Australia, we provide services to government and industry, and we also provide services internationally.

Chris Murphy, who is well known as the developer of models of the Australian economy and as an economic forecaster, is the Director of IE. Chris and the rest of the Independent Economics team are developing completely new models of the Australian economy for IE for launch in the first half of 2012. Chris has also developed models for the Governments of Singapore, Malaysia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Abu Dhabi and Oman. He has modelled the economic impacts of the introduction of GST for the ACCC and other key Australian Government agencies, and more generally is well known for his modelling of tax reform and a wide range of economic policies.
